Fraudulent Title Uncovered, $650,000 Property Transaction Saved
Our client was on the verge of completing a commercial property purchase in Kampala. During due diligence, our team identified irregularities in the title history at the Land Registry. A deeper investigation revealed the seller had no lawful ownership, the title had been fraudulently transferred from the registered proprietor. We advised the client to immediately withdraw from the transaction and notified the relevant authorities. The client retained their full investment and was connected to a legitimate property through our network.

Constitutional Law & Human Rights
Constitutional Petition, Enforcement of Fundamental Rights Under Article 50
M-Smith Advocates appeared in a constitutional petition before the High Court of Uganda Civil Division, filed under Article 50(1) and (4) of the Constitution of Uganda and the Judicature (Fundamental Rights and Freedoms) (Enforcement Procedure) Rules. Litigation & Debt Recovery
Commercial Debt Recovery, $184,000 Recovered on Disputed Contract
A construction contractor was owed $184,000 by a developer who disputed the final payment milestone on a completed project. The developer claimed defects in workmanship as grounds for non-payment. We filed in the Commercial Court of Uganda, secured an interim order preserving the developer's assets pending judgment, and appointed an independent expert to verify completion standards. The expert report vindicated our client. The developer settled in full before trial to avoid a court ruling and the associated costs award.
Outcome: Full $184,000 recovered. Settlement reached pre-trial. Costs awarded to client.
